Citizen science

HAVE YOU SEEN A PURPLE MARTIN?

The area of occurrence of the purple martins is immense. They occur throughout Brazil. Except in the extreme south of the country. Keeping a close eye on this entire region is impossible.

That’s why we invite you to help us. If you see a purple martin, watch its movements, take note of the location, see how many days they stay in the region and join our sighting network!

Almost all of the observations on this map were made by citizen scientists!

You can also contribute to the conservation of the purple martins!

We are collecting records across Brazil with the help of observers.

Do not feel discouraged if you only saw purple martins in other countries. You may also contribute to science by reporting your sighting in birdwatching platforms like ebird.org.

OBSERVING AND REGISTERING

One of the main objectives of our work is to create a network of purple martin sightings.

Birdwatching is an excellent opportunity to look at the world around us in a different way, get out of the routine, practice physical exercise and reflect on life. Have you tried? Go for a walk and see how many birds share your city with you!

On your walks, whenever you see one of these birds around, get in touch with us, submit your photos on birdwatching platforms and participate!
