The Purple Martin

A BIRD
UNITING
CONTINENTS

The Purple Martins is a bird that travels a lot. It reproduces in North America and flies to South America during the northern hemisphere winter to seek more pleasant temperatures and food.

In eastern and northwestern North America, they build their nests in human-made constructions such as perforated pots and wooden boxes. In the west, they use natural cavities, often built by woodpeckers.

The Project

The Andorinha-Azul Project is a set of actions targeting the conservation of this species.

What we want to known:

  • Where are the populations of Purple Martins in Brazil?

  • What is the destination of different subspecies of Purple Martins in Brazil?
  • What threats does a Purple Martin face?
